How we calculate this
We add up the typical electrical draw of the appliances you tick, then pick the smallest standard Spanish power step (the potencia normalizada ladder: 2.3, 3.45, 4.6, 5.75, 6.9 kW …) that covers that peak. Your contracted power is a fixed daily standing charge you pay whether you use any electricity or not, so every kW you don't need is money lost each month.
The saving uses the regulated 2.0TD power term for 2026: 27.70 €/kW·year in the peak (punta) period plus 0.73 €/kW·year off-peak (valle) ≈ 28.43 €/kW·year if you contract the same power in both periods (the usual case), before tax. VAT (21%) and the special electricity tax (~5%) apply on top, so your real saving is roughly a quarter higher. On the free market your supplier sets the power price — usually a little higher — so this is a conservative floor.

What are the standard power levels (kW) in Spain?
The classic single-phase steps are 2.3, 3.45, 4.6, 5.75, 6.9, 8.05 and 9.2 kW. Since 2018 you can actually contract any value in 0.1 kW steps up to 15 kW, but these are the common tiers and what most homes are on. Above 15 kW you move to a 3.0TD contract.
Will lowering my power make the breaker trip?
Only if you try to draw more than you contract at the same moment. The ICP tolerates brief overloads and appliances rarely all hit their maximum at once, so if your breaker never trips today you have headroom to spare. Size for your realistic peak — usually cooking, or an electric-car charger — and leave a little margin.
